This morning’s girls’ Bible class was led by one of kitchen staff Rachel Lanius. Rachel discussed how we are always talking about giving our best in areas such as school, sports, music. Even here at camp we try to give our best in sports, crafts, trivia, and clean up in our cabin. God wants us to give our best when we worship Him.
We need to consider are we just going to the church building or do we truly attend to worship Him. In Malachi 1:4-14 God reprimands the Israelites for their imperfect sacrifices. The Israelites were offering up the lame, blind, and imperfect. Our Lord was not satisfied with their worship. John 4:20-24 tells us that we must worship in spirit and truth. “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” When God was looking for the first King of Israel he sent Samuel to search for someone that had a good heart. Psalm 95 demonstrates David’s excitement towards worshiping our Lord.
Hebrews 12:28 reminds us that we must be aware of how we are serving God remembering that he deserves our respect. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve god acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” Rachel asked the girls to consider what you put into it is what you get out of it. We must prepare ourselves before worship. Worship is NOT a spectator sport. We must be active in our worship by truly reading the words that we are singing as we sing out loud from the bottom of our heart. During the Lord’s Supper we need to concentrate and focus on the great sacrifice that Christ made for us. As we are praying we need to be sure to listen and focus on the prayer that is being offered up. As the preacher stands before us we need to follow along with the lesson. Rachel recognized that even as a young age you can walk out of the service blessed that you worshiped your Lord and learned from being there in the worship service.
God is the sole audience in our worship, we are there to glorify him, focus on what he has done for us. Let us make sure we are coming to him with a pure heart. We all must examine ourselves as we are told in Galatians 6:4. “But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
Our boys’ study was led by Lime team captain, Jason Dukes. He started the study by asking the boys if their life feels like a “bunch of rules”.
There was one rule that Christ mentions in the book of Matthew that is most important. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matt. 22:36-38
So as young men, how can we do this?
- Reading His Word
- Prayer
- Loving others
- Assembling to Worship Him
John 4:24 says when we worship Him, we must worship him in sprit and in truth. In spirit means we must WANT to worship Him. Our hearts’ must be in it. And to worship in truth, we must do the things He commands us to in the WAY He commands us to do them.
Jason finished his lesson with Romans 2:11. Sometimes we think because we “go to church” and we go three times a week we feel we are right with God, but God does not show partiality in that way. We must continue to love the Lord our God with all our heart, and with all our soul and with all our mind.
