Monday Night Bible Study

Sean Walker lead our Monday evening Bible study and opened by reminding us of our theme for the week – “Born for this”.  He asked the listeners if they ever asked themselves the question “Why”.  When you’re warm in bed, how often do we say to ourselves “Why do I need to get up? Why do I have to go to school?  Why do I have to go to practice?  Sometimes we just don’t want to do it.  Or how many of us while we are at work and  everyone else is having a good time, ask ourselves, why am I here when everyone else is out having fun?  You’re not alone.  Everyone of us has asked themselves the same question at one time or another.  As we get older we start to ponder some of the bigger “Whys” such as “Why are we here, why was I put on this earth?, Why was I born?
Genesis 1:28 is our verse for the week and it reads: Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the bireds f the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Man is the only thing that God said would be made in HIS image.  Mankind was created as his own kind in the likeness of God.  Gen 1:31 goes on to reveal to us that God declared his creation was very good.
We know that each one of us will sin, we have marred our intended purpose and must seek forgiveness.  I Pet 1 v 3 teaches us much about the abundant mercy that our God bestows upon his children and that we can rise as new Creatures, free from sin.
When you look at our logo for the week, it’s a tree. You can identify a tree by its fruit.  You know an apple tree is an apple tree because of the fruit it bears.  If we are a follower of Christ, people should see us by our fruits. That fruit is a manifestation of what’s inside our heart.  What people see in our speech, our actions & our habits should point to Christ.  Putting good things in our hearts, means that good things will come out.
Good trees produce other good trees by spreading their seeds. When God designed those trees, he created a way for them to create other trees  As Children of God, We should seek to make other Christians – bringing others to God through our example.
As we grow in our walk with Christ, our fruit shows and others will see us. We carry the “Seed” in our heart.  The seed is the word of God. others. Share your light with the world and create other lights along the way.
Good trees grow where they are planted. Sharing the gospel with the world can be intimidating at times – Especially as a young person.  To grow where you are planted means that although you may not have influence on everyone, you can start with your own sphere of influence – your close friends, your family.
Learn to use the resources that have been given to you. Matt 25 teaches us about the Parable of the Talents. We have all been blessed with Talents – with resources. What are your resources?  Maybe you have been blessed with a large family, health, wealth, live in a country of opportunity, good education.  Maybe it’s simply that you have the ability to communicate with others.  Sean issued the following challenge: Think about your life, all of your resources, your abilities.  USE those things to grow as a Christian and reach the lost.
Good trees grow towards the light. Trees can grow in some unusual places.  They seek out the light and grow vertically.  They grow where they are planted.  They use their available resources and grown towards the light.  Our God is the master builder, the designer and sustainer of all things and yet he took time to wonderfully and fearfully create you and me.  Rest assured that when he created the universe, he had you in mind as well. He had a purpose for you.  We were created in order to live in service to him.  You were Born for This.
