Amy Browning and Aric Russell lead us in our afternoon studies

Amy Browning, Medical Staff, led the young ladies today in Bible study while Aric Russell, Sports Team, led the young men.

Our lesson theme today was “More worthy than Thor.”

Amy first told a story about Kaylynn Tremblett.  Last year, Kaylynn was running the 50 yard  at camp, was in first place, hit a hole and fell; this caused her to come in last place.  All throughout the year, she practiced running and this year, she won the 50 yard dash!  She was worthy of that 1st place finish because she practiced and prepared!

What about when you study for the test but your friend doesn’t and cheats of your paper….who is worthy of getting the A?  The person who studied, right?

Think about Thor – he is the only one worthy to pick up the Hammer.  The symbol of his worthiness is his hammer.  The symbol of our worthiness is Jesus.  Jesus died for us and he is the ultimate example.

In Romans 8:37-39 it tells us that their will be things that try to separate us from the love of God but it cannot.  We can be more than conquerors by becoming a Christian, teaching others, being kind to everyone, asking for forgiveness and admitting when we are wrong.

Aric first began by looking at the character of Thor and where he came from.  Thor’s hammer is called the “Mjolnir,” which means “the crusher.”  Now can just anybody use his hammer?  No, only Thor has the power and is worthy…..he had to be humble, brave, and honorable to be able to pick up the hammer.

If we look at the example of Moses, who was also brave, honorable and humble before the eyes of the Lord (Hebrews 11:23-29, Numbers 12:3).  Moses didn’t have a hammer though, he had his own tool…”The Staff of God.”    Through God, Moses staff had power….power to turn into a snake, power to make water come out of a rock, power to part the Red Sea.

How about you?  Are you a superhero?  We can’t do the things that Thor did but we want to be able to serve God like Moses did.  God used Moses and he can use us.  We can be like a superhero….a conqueror because we are:

  • Brave – Romans 1:16
  • Honorable – 1 Timothy 4:12
  • Humble – Proverbs 6:16-19, 16:18, 1 Peter 5:5

Even though we don’t have a hammer like Thor or a rod like Moses, we still have a powerful tool we can use…..THE BIBLE!  (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12)
