Friday Theme — “Be Strong: Adversary to Satan”

This morning at flagpole, kitchen staffer Tres Barker introduced us to our theme of the day: “Be Strong:  Adversary to Satan.”

——————————

Adversary — someone who attacks; an enemy

Superheroes have adversaries:

  • Spiderman — Venom
  • Batman — Joker
  • Superman — Lex Luther

Christian’s adversary — Satan

I Peter 5:8: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

God is a lion, our leader, our protector.

We have to realize that Satan constantly attacks and we are most susceptible when we are weak.  In “The Lion King,” that we watched last night, Nalla was able to attack Pumba because he strayed. The Apostle Peter had an anger issue — when he denied Christ, he was angry, but he repented.

An adversary attacks.  We should be an adversary of Satan and attack him.

If we follow God, He will be an enemy to our enemies and an adversary to our adversaries.  Exodus 23:21,22: “Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.”

We can learn a great lesson from Job — he remained strong throughout all of his trials — he was an adversary for God!
