Monday’s Theme: “God Fits in Our Friendships” – Boy’s / Girl’s Bible Studies

To continue our specific theme of “Friendship” today, lime team captain Amy Dukes taught the girls’ afternoon Bible study. Amy focused her class on how God must be part of our friendship. God wants us to have friends. Friends are important! They give us encouragement, advice, companionship, and fun. “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Friends influence us. Sometimes, they influence us when we don’t even realize it. As the girls entered the mess hall Amy greeted each of them with a hand shake. What they didn’t realize was that she had glitter on her hands. She had all the girls look down at their hands to see that her glitter had passed onto their hands. This helped demonstrate that our friends influence use at all times and are a reflection of our character.

There are good friends and bad friends. We have to choose wisely. We see in Daniel how with the strength of his friends he was able to stand strong and to serve God in everything that he did. Making the wrong choices of friends can cause problems in our own life. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

We must remember to consider God and the kind of friends he wants us to choose.

Navy team captain, John McCauley taught the boys on Monday about “What kind of friend am I?” John had the boys think about a perfect friend and the kind of things he would do for them. They also talked about how to pick the right friends. Proverbs 12:26 says “A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” The type of friends you pick WILL have an influence on you.

The goals for the lesson:

  • Remember this day – Remember the guys around you and years from now remember the good friends you are making right now.
  • Make Friends Smart – Be wise in the friends you choose, the people you spend time with, AND the wife you choose.
  • Be a Better Friend – Don’t just do what is expected of you, but go above and beyond in your actions.
  • Be a Friend to the World – Let Christ’s example show the actions that you do for others.
