Wednesday’s Theme: “Peer Pressure”

Gold team captains Jason & Amy Dukes taught the boys and girls classes respectively this afternoon after lunch. With our overall camp theme of “Impossible is Nothing,” today’s specific theme is “Peer Pressure.” The Dukes stressed how deceitful peer pressure is. I Corinthians 15:33 – “Evil companions corrupt good morals.” We must not be deceived, fooled, or tricked by peer pressure. It is VERY powerful and everyone is affected, regardless of our age.

Proverbs 1:10 tell us that if sinners entice us, we must not consent. We should choose our friends wisely (Proverbs 13:20). We must not allow anyone to deceive us, but rather stand up against sin (Ephesians 5:6,7). A true friend sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). Solomon was a wise man, but he made mistakes. In I Kings 11:4, we see that his wives turned him away from God–unfortunately he gave into peer pressure.

We must never underestimate the power of peer pressure. But with God, we CAN overcome it. David was able to overcome Goliath with God’s help. Gideon was able to overcome the Midianites with just 300 men with God’s help. God makes the impossible possible. He saved Noah and his family on the ark.

In Ephesians 6, we learn the importance of combating Satan with our spiritual armor. Romans 8:31 – “If God be for us, who could be against us.” Joshua 1:9 encourages us to “be strong and courageous because God is with us wherever we go.” God is in charge of the spiritual army (II Kings 6:15,16).

With God’s help, we can always choose the right answer. For Christ’s sake, when Paul was weak, he was strong (II Corinthians 12:10). God always wins. Spies Joshua & Calebwere pressured, and Caleb made the right choice, although he was pressured otherwise (Numbers 14:24).

We must recognize peer pressure and avoid it. With God’s help, we can overcome peer pressure. We must beware that Satan can even disguise himself among Christian friends (II Corinthians 11:12-15). We must always be on alert.

There are various types of things we can be pressured into:

— Sports becoming our first priority

— Drugs and alcohol

— Bad language

— Immodesty

— Indecency online and social media

— Inappropriate movies, music, and video games

I Peter 5:8 tells us to be aware and conscious because Satan prowls like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Trust in God with all your heart and He will keep your heart (Proverbs 3:5,6). God overwhelmingly ALWAYS conquers (Romans 8:37-39).
