Tuesday Morning Flagpole: God Fits My Relationships

With our continued theme of “God Fits,” kitchen staff member Jeremy Goen directed our thoughts around the flagpole this morning, focusing on today’s theme, “God Fits My Relationships.” Jeremy began by the entire campground singing Psalm 19:7-10: “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”

What would our world be without the Bible?  It would be corrupt and chaotic. But, fortunately, the world with God’s Word is a wonderful place! God gave us His Word so we might know how He wants us to live and to not sin against Him. We need the Bible because Jeremiah 10:23 tells us, “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”

The Bible gives us instructions in all the relationships in our lives.  It gives us instruction on marriage, in the home and family, at work, being a friend, and even our church family. His word “is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (II Timothy 3:16,17).

Ephesians 5:1 tells us that we should be “followers of God, as dear children,” and that we should avoid “evil communications (companionships) [which] corrupt good manners (morals)” (I Corinthians 15:33). Proverbs 24:1 tells us that we should not desire to be with evil men, but rather with Christians. We must remember that “a man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24) — to have a friend, you must be a friend.

We need to realize that our reputation is very important and that “a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1). Boaz knew that Ruth had a good reputation.  What is your reputation? To help our reputations, we must expose evil works (Ephesians 5:11), meditate on spiritual things (Philippians 4:8), abstain from all forms of evil (I Thessalonians 5:22), and think on pure things (Proverbs 23:7). We must remember that God’s Word is truth (John 17:17) and His commands are righteousness (Psalm 119:172).

In conclusion, we should help each other be better Christians and walk in love, in light, in wisdom–walk in God (Ephesians 5:1-21). Are we going to use God’s Word to help our relationships so we won’t sin?  We should build each other up. Are you influencing others for good, or are you being influenced by the world?
