Monday’s Theme: “Peace” — Girls’ Bible Study

To continue our specific theme of “Peace” today, yearbook coordinator Jenny Stout taught the girls’ afternoon Bible study. Jenny focused her class on bullying, which is defined as: when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing. Bullying can hurt people physically and emotionally–it can even cause physical sickness.

Bullying suvival tips:

1. Ignore the bully and walk away. Walk tall and hold your head up high and this will send a message that you are not vulnerable. I Peter 3:10-12 tells us to refrain from evil.

2. Hold your anger. Don’t let bullies have control over YOUR emotions. Proverbs 16:32 tells us to be slow to anger, and Proverbs 14:29 tells us to be slow to wrath.

3. Don’t get physical. Don’t kick, hit, or push back when bullied. Gain control of the situation by walking away–aggressive responses tend to lead to more violence and more bullying for the victims. Matthew 5:38-41 tells us to resist evil, to turn our other cheek when offended.

4. Practice confidence. Feel good about yourself and don’t feel threatened when bullied. Deuteronomy 31:6 tells us to be strong and of good courage and the Lord will not fail us.

5. Take charge of your life. You can’t control other people’s actions, but you can stay true to yourself. Be confident and ignore the mean kids. Psalm 139:14 tells us to be confident in ourselves because we were made by God. Revelation 21:4 assures us that God will wipe away all tears, so find something to be good at (I Corinthians 10:31).

6. Talk about it. Talk to your parents, your teacher, your counselor, or a friend when you need support, but most importantly, pray to God for help. Proverbs 1:5 tell us to attain wise advice.

7. Find your true friends. Gain love and support from your friends who will help you through the rough times when you might be bullied. Proverbs 18:24 tells us that a friend sticks closer with you than a brother. John 15:13 tells us that greater love hath no man than to die for you.

How can you avoid being a bully yourself?

1. Love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31).

2. Be a Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).

3, Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth (Ephesians 4:29).

4. Have compassion for one another (I Peter 3:8,9).
